I’m not telling you it’s going to be easy - I’m telling you it’s going to be worth it.
If you can’t make it good, at least make it look good.
The best designers are passionate about design, yet dispassionate about their own designs.
I was approached by my brother, Richard to convert a photograph, an illustration more specifically to pure line art sketch, so that my 5 year old nephew, Aiden, can colour the outline drawing.
The easy way out for both of us would have been that I fire up my Photoshop, fiddle around with the filters and Image Adjustment and wallah, sketch ready. But we would have preferred a “Photoshop-less” solution, which he could use again and again.
I decided to give sumo paint, one of the free online photo editor a try. Here is what I did,
- loaded the photo, into the app,
- Used the Filter > Edge Detection, checked the “Grayscale” below that, played around with the settings, and finally for removing the noise in the image,
- I used Adjustments > Levels, brought the leftmost slider, which denotes the darkest point in the image and right most slider, for the lightest point of the image closer together. This increases the contrast on the image, hence fading out the lighter greys, and also changing the darker greys into black.
Obsessions Make My Life Worse And Work Better
Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works
The Red Beacon atop a VIP car screams… “Get out of the way, I am late for work. Again!” Makes me think… Arrey why can’t they leave home early just like the rest of us!
